What is it?

WEEE Waste is, in simple terms anything electrical that uses a power source, this could be mains fixed power (plugs into the wall socket) or battery power. The list is vast but includes things like Computers, Printers, Monitors, ink cartridges, Radios, Mobile-phones, printer cartridges to name just a few.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive came into force in January 2007 and aims to both reduce the amount of WEEE being produced and encourage everyone to reuse, recycle and recover it. The WEEE Directive also aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment.

How does this affect me? 

The WEE directive does have implications for all of us, it is not just a case of dumping your old monitor or computer into the wheelie bin destined for landfill, everyone now has a legal obligation to dispose of all electrical products that have come to the end of their useful life in compliance with the WEE Directive.
